In the previous parts of this study, I’ve explored the destructive spirits of Jezebel and Ahab, identifying many of their characteristics. Now, I want to focus specifically on their fruits—the behaviors and traits that reveal their presence. As I share these insights, I urge caution: recognizing one or two fruits in someone doesn’t automatically mean they’re controlled by Jezebel or Ahab. It’s possible, but we must wait for the Holy Spirit’s confirmation or observe additional fruits before concluding. Testing everything is crucial, as premature judgments can cause damage and division, which is Satan’s aim (1 Thessalonians 5:21). God’s goal is to unite His bride, but not at the cost of tolerating evil. The Holy Spirit in us cannot coexist with evil spirits or their works. These spirits must be exposed and cast out. People can remain if they repent, but the spirits must go. A key sign of true repentance, I’ve learned, is genuine humility and a heart to serve, not rule. Let’s now examine the specific fruits of Jezebel and Ahab.
The Fruits of the Spirit of Jezebel
-
Seducing and Blinding: Jezebel is primarily a seducing spirit. I’ve observed that she uses sweet, reasonable words that sound close to the truth, making her deception hard to detect without vigilance. Staying focused on the Holy Spirit and testing everything is essential. When someone falls for her tricks, she immediately causes spiritual blindness and deafness, rendering them unable to perceive the truth, even if they desire it.
-
Appointing Herself: Jezebel loves to appoint herself to prominent roles, often using titles like apostle, prophet, teacher, pastor, or evangelist. I’ve seen many under her influence demand recognition for these titles, even insisting others address them by them. Yet, only God appoints His true servants. A genuine servant, I’ve noted, doesn’t exalt themselves or need titles for respect but honors the One who called them (Galatians 1:10).
-
Unrightfully Gaining Authority: Jezebel doesn’t ask for authority; she takes it, gradually or outright. I’ve witnessed her attempt to assume roles of leadership, and if unchallenged by God-appointed leaders, she gains control. Wherever she holds authority, spiritual blindness and deafness spread, bringing spiritual death by eroding God’s life. The church is meant to rule under God’s appointed leaders, not be dominated by usurpers.
-
Self-Promoting: Jezebel loves the sound of her own voice. She talks excessively, believing her words are the most important and that everyone should listen. I’ve seen her promote herself, boasting about her works, her relationship with God, or claiming constant divine communication. False prophecies are common, and she tolerates no questioning of her claims.
-
Refusing to Repent: Those controlled by Jezebel are convinced they’re right, justifying their actions and words. I’ve observed their stubborn refusal to repent, blinded to their error.
-
Subjecting Men: Women under Jezebel’s influence have an irresistible urge to dominate men, often unknowingly. Their actions reveal this desire to reign over them, defying God’s order.
-
Worshiping Idols: As I’ve mentioned in earlier parts, worship extends beyond songs—it’s whatever takes first place in our lives. Jezebel prioritizes something else over Jesus, making it an idol. She doesn’t exclude Jesus but demotes Him. Examples include signs, miracles, prayers, prophecies, religion, structures, or rules. I’ve learned that discernment is vital to recognize this subtle shift.
-
Witchcraft: Jezebel employs witchcraft, a sin combining control, manipulation, and intimidation—all rooted in pride. I’ve seen these as early signs of her influence when she gains authority.
-
Hysterical Reaction When Exposed: When Jezebel is exposed, she reacts hysterically, never leaving quietly. I’ve noted that this moment offers a chance for action, but she’ll use every tool—control, manipulation, intimidation—to regain control.
-
Turning Facts Around: Confronted with her evil, Jezebel twists the truth, convincing others that she’s right and her accuser is wrong. I’ve seen her persuasiveness sway many around her.
-
Openly and Publicly Accusing Someone: Jezebel publicly accuses God’s servants with lies and twisted truths, often claiming they’ve sinned to justify her actions. I’ve observed her draw attention to herself, unlike the Holy Spirit, who convicts privately. Only one figure in Scripture is called “the accuser”—and it’s not God.
-
False Testimonies: Jezebel manipulates others into spreading false testimonies about God’s servants. She first convinces them of her lies, then prompts them to share these falsehoods. I’ve seen this happen frequently, especially in the Netherlands, where many true servants face false accusations.
-
Destroying and Killing: Jezebel’s ultimate aim, like Satan’s, is to kill and destroy. Wherever she operates, I’ve witnessed a trail of destruction—churches and ministries fade, leaving hurt people behind.
-
Religious Spirit: Jezebel collaborates with the religious spirit, using religious pretexts for her accusations, false testimonies, and destruction. She claims divine authorization, even misusing Scripture. I’ve recalled how Satan twisted God’s Word against Jesus in the wilderness (Matthew 4:5-7).
-
Turning People Against Each Other: Jezebel sows division, turning people against one another through her lies and false testimonies. I’ve seen this pattern echoed in Matthew 10:21-22, where division arises from betrayal.
The Fruits of the Spirit of Ahab
While Jezebel is a formidable force, I believe Ahab bears primary responsibility. If Ahab had wielded his God-given authority rightly and focused on God, Jezebel would have had no foothold. God holds leaders accountable first, as seen in Hosea:
“Now let no man contend, or rebuke another; For your people are like those who contend with the priest. Therefore you shall stumble in the day; The prophet also shall stumble with you in the night; and I will destroy your mother. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. The more they increased, the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame. They eat up the sin of My people; They set their heart on their iniquity. And it shall be: like people, like priest. So I will punish them for their ways, and reward them for their deeds. For they shall eat, but not have enough; they shall commit harlotry, but not increase; Because they have ceased obeying the Lord.”
—Hosea 4:4-10
Here are the specific fruits of Ahab:
-
Refusing to Repent: Ahab justifies his actions rather than repenting. I’ve seen Jezebel aid him, whispering justifications that he echoes, believing he’s blameless.
-
Squandering Authority: Ahab loves authority but uses it only for personal gain. When he should act decisively, I’ve observed him do nothing, allowing chaos to unfold.
-
Submitting to False Authority: A true leader submits only to Jesus Christ, the Leader of leaders. Yet, I’ve seen Ahab-controlled leaders yield to Jezebel’s influence, becoming spiritually blind and deaf to her works.
-
Worshiping Idols: Like Jezebel, Ahab follows her lead in prioritizing something over Jesus, creating idols. Examples include signs, miracles, prayers, prophecies, religion, structures, or rules. I’ve noted that discernment is needed to spot this.
-
Not Taking Responsibility: Ahab allows Jezebel to seize control while standing idly by. Despite his responsibility for his position and Jezebel’s actions (done in his name), I’ve seen him evade accountability.
-
Taking What’s Not Rightfully His: Ahab lusts after and seizes what isn’t his. Through Jezebel’s false accusations, he takes churches, ministries, and works from God’s true servants. I’ve witnessed this in today’s churches, though God will hold him accountable.
-
Loves to Have a Position, but Hates Confrontation: Ahab cherishes his position but avoids confrontation. I’ve observed him delegate conflicts to Jezebel, shirking his duty.
-
Being Blinded: In many churches, people wonder why leaders don’t see Jezebel’s influence. I’ve realized it’s because Ahab’s spirit blinds them spiritually.
-
Blaming Others: Ahab takes the easy route, blaming others for his mistakes. I’ve seen this as part of his refusal to take responsibility.
-
Playing the Victim/Self-Pity: After blaming others, Ahab plays the victim, claiming he’s helpless and pitiable. I’ve learned not to fall for this but to test everything.
I’ve come to believe that “a true servant of the Lord is not recognized by his lack of mistakes, he is recognized by (the spiritual maturity of) how he deals with his mistakes.”
A Call to Discernment and Action
As I share these fruits, I emphasize the need for discernment. We must test everything by the Holy Spirit to avoid division while exposing evil spirits. Jezebel and Ahab thrive where leaders fail to act, but through repentance, humility, and focus on Jesus, we can cast out their influence and restore true worship and anointing.
